When a new technology or idea is brought forth, that technology or idea often spawns thousands of other ideas based around that technology. That’s exactly what we see happening with Google+ along with Hangouts. Hangouts, if you are not aware, is the group video chat segment of Google+. It allows multiple people to engage in a video conference, while also allowing any number of people to view that conference. So far we have seen several interesting uses for Hangouts, which is just one of many awesome features of Google’s new social networking platform.

This afternoon however, we heard about a live Google Hangout concert that will be taking place tomorrow night, hosted by Singer/Songwriter, Performer, and Recording Artist, Daria Musk. In a Google+ post earlier today Daria wrote the following:

It’s on! I’ve been working out the tech kinks and I’m planning my first Hangout Mini Concert for tomorrow (Saturday) night at 8pm EST! I would love for you to join and help me beta test the idea! There’s gonna be little moments of delay and wonky connections I’m sure but it’s too exciting of an idea to not go boldly forward! :-)
I can’t wait to connect with you all and with G+ers thru songs and hangin’!
It will be like a storytellers / campfire kind of show – I’ll try to play for you, we can laugh, try to sing along, and see what it’s like!

I’ve already been so blown away by the openness and awesomeness of this community and I can’t wait to play for/with you face to face!

If you would like to participate in what is likely the first ever Google+ concert, just follow Daria, and at 8pm EST tomorrow evening, join in on the hangout. It should be interesting to see how this concert goes, and who may show up. Note that although an unlimited number of people can view a hangout, only 10 people at a time can participate. Here is a quick clip of Daria Musk performing on Youtube:

The funny thing (at least funny to me) is that there’s no easy way to share this on Google Plus. You have every other social network sharing gadget known to man, but no “Share on Plus” option.

That is definitely not the first Google+ concert. Several musician friends of mine have already been doing exactly this. It’s the first impulse that every musician had as soon as discovering the “hangout” function.

Ironic for a Google Plus blog.
